Hitech GP are delighted to welcome Ben Hingeley to the FIA F3 Asian Championship line-up for the second round at the 4.015km Ningbo International Speedway in China. The talented European F3 Hitech Bullfrog GP driver will race alongside team mates Raoul Hyman and Charles Leong in the Dragon Hitech GP car, marking the second round of the newly-formed championship.
The Silverstone-based team made their debut at the inaugural FIA F3 Asian Championship in Sepang, Malaysia back in July, taking home an impressive eight podiums, catapulting them straight into the championship lead. With a clash in the schedule for points leader Jake Hughes running in GP3 at Monza over the weekend, 21-year-old Hingeley will step up and take to the seat of the Hitech Dragon GP car in hopes of success for the British team. He will be joining team mates Raoul Hyman who currently sits in second place in the standings, followed by Charles Leong in third place.
Following his debut in the FIA F3 European Championship with Hitech Bullfrog GP at the start of the year, Hingeley has scored a number of top-ten finishes and hopes to further his experience at Ningbo. With numerous accolades at a young age, Ben has enjoyed great success on track, claiming the 2011 Welsh Mini Max title before finishing as a runner-up in the 2013 Super One Junior Rotax Open Karting title and Super One Junior Rotax vice-championship. His impressive on-track record soon inducted him as one of the prestigious BRDC Rising Star members. In 2015, the young driver debuted in the Formula Jedi series, adding eight impressive wins, three podium finishes and three lap-records to his name. Hingeley also took the championship title in only his first season behind the wheel of a single-seater. Stepping up to BRDC British F3 in 2016, Ben claimed two podiums and one pole position, with continued success into 2017 where he finished 3rd place in the championship. 2017 also saw the young driver contest the Euroformula Open Championship, adding to his wealth of experience on track.
Reflecting on the signing of Ben Hingeley at the Ningbo round, Hitech GP Team Principal Oliver Oakes added: “We’re excited to have Ben join us for the Ningbo round. He’s done a great job for us as a rookie stepping up to European FIA Formula 3 so far this season. I am sure he’ll enjoy the experience of learning Ningbo, the new regional FIA Formula 3 car – once he is over his jet-lag from Misano to China.”
Hingeley commented: “I’m really excited to be racing with Hitech in the Asian F3 Championship. I’m really thankful to Oli for giving me the opportunity as well as Thakeham for the continued support! It will be my first time over in China, but I’m looking forward to the challenge to learn the car and track quickly and keep up the great start that the team had in the first round of the championship.”
Round 2 of the FIA F3 Asian Championship will get underway on Friday, 31 August 2018, starting off with a free-practice session, followed by two qualifying sessions. Saturday will see the drivers compete in Race 1 and 2, followed by Race 3 on Sunday.
