Hitech completed its domination of Round 2 at Thailand’s Chang International Circuit, adding to their unbroken tally of six wins in six races so far this season. The FIA F3 Asian Championship debuted at the Thai circuit, with Red Bull Junior driver Doohan and Ukyo claiming three wins and several podiums between them.
Opening the Buriram weekend, Race 1 was all to play for with the drivers fully engaged in wheel-to-wheel tussles. Hitech GPs trio of drivers fought effortlessly in the first race at Thailands circuit. Ukyo claimed P1, with team mate Doohan finishing behind him in P2.
Sasahara rocketed off the line, after starting on pole and setting the pace in the early stages of the race. Team mate Doohan pressured the Japanese driver, dominating the field of 14 drivers behind him. Shaking off the competition, Doohan made a decisive move on race leader Sasahara, snatching the lead after nipping to the inside to secure a P1 victory. Team mate Sasahara finished the second race in P2, repeating their success from Race 1.
The final race of the weekend saw Sasahara storm away from pole, nabbing a flawless P1 finish for the Hitech team. With plenty of defending and attacking, Doohan withheld the field to secure a P2 finish.
After two rounds and six overall races, Sasahara leads the Asian F3 Championship on 135 points, 14 points ahead of Doohan. The next round of the Asian F3 Championship will see the team head to Japan’s Suzuka Circuit on 21-23 June.
